Power Flushing.

What is a power flush?
Over time your central heating system becomes coated with sediment, limescale, iron oxide (rust) and sludge. This builds up on copper pipes, causing them to become narrower or blocked. Your boiler has to use more energy to pump the water around your central heating system, this results in higher fuel bills as your system isn’t working at its maximum efficiency. During a power flush one of our expert engineers will connect a powerful Kamco machine to your system. This will pump water and chemicals through your pipes at a high velocity, but low pressure, removing all of the sludge and sediment deposits. Your system will be able to work at its full capacity once more.

Does your system need a power flush?
There are a number of warning signs that can indicate that your system is in need of a power flush, these include:

  • Cold spots on radiators
  • A poor or inconsistent supply of hot water
  • Dirty radiator water
  • Central heating slow to heat up
  • Energy bills higher than expected
  • Boiler making loud clanking or thumping noises
  • Small leaks from radiator pipes
  • Radiators constantly need bleeding or venting

If you are thinking about getting a new boiler then you will probably need a power flush of your existing radiators in order to get a warranty.

How long does a power flush take?
If carried out by one of our expert engineers at Gas Boilers Servicing a power flush takes anywhere between four and eight hours, depending on the amount of sludge that has built up and the number of radiators.
